Why the S&P Data Matters
The reason I shared the S&P data recently was due to overall global market cap weightings to US equities sitting at 61%. It is widely used as a benchmark for the overall performance of the US stock market.
The Matrix Book, from which that image was taken, is brilliant. Among other things it shares trends and data all the way back to the 1940s.

The FTSE Picture Today
Given our UK position, here is my own comparative FTSE analysis:
- 2 January: Started at 8,260 points
- 9 April, height of panic: Dropped to 7,679 points (-7.05%)
- Current value: 8,762 points (+14.36% from the height of panic)
What was the apocalypse du jour back in April continues to play itself out, exactly like countless crises before it.
This too shall pass. And it did.
