The Election Results, the Noise, and Why We Stay the Course
What Just Happened
The local election results seem to have confirmed what many people already felt.
A large part of the country appears to be sick to death of Starmer and co., and whether you agree with that sentiment or not, the message from voters has been fairly blunt.
Labour has taken a serious kicking, Reform has made significant gains, and commentators are already questioning what it means for the government, leadership, policy, tax, spending and the wider direction of the country.
Reuters reported heavy Labour losses and major Reform gains, while The Guardian described significant setbacks for Labour in traditional areas.
So, yes, politically it matters.
But From an Investment Perspective
It is also just another reminder that the noise never stops.
One week it is the Middle East. Another week it is tariffs. Then it is inflation, interest rates, tax rises, AI valuations, the Bank of England warning about markets, or a government getting hammered at the ballot box.
There is always something. And that is really the point.
Markets do not advance because the world is calm. They advance despite the fact it rarely is.
How We See Risk
In my world, risk is not one company, one manager, one sector, or one political party blowing up. We hold exposure across the developed and emerging world, across thousands of companies, sectors, currencies and economies.
What we see along the way is price gyration. Sometimes uncomfortable. Sometimes sharp and sometimes noisy enough to make people question everything.
We have seen it through wars, recessions, banking crises, inflation shocks, political shocks and every other apocalypse du jour that has come and gone.
The advance has been permanent. But so has the noise.
The Message Remains the Same
We stay invested, diversified, and keep perspective.
If the current climate has you questioning your plan, or you would like to talk through what we hold and why, I am always happy to have that conversation.
